Going Green, as well as black and red.

i have started losing my hair, you may be seeing this more often.
I recently was locked in a two hour discussion with some of the closest people in my life about caring for the environment. it was intense as well as funny, talk about feeling blue after a green talk. the question that sparked the debate was, if God will destroy the world with fire, why should we care for it. as you can tell by the nature of the question, the old theological debate between those who believe this world will be annihilated and those of us who believe it will be renewed was "re-sparked" .

As a peace-loving, not yet voted Malawian, i could not stop but process this information in light of our flag. in case you do not own an atlas, the Malawian flag is black, red and green. the green there symbolizing flourish and flourish cannot be mentioned ( by a normal English speaker) without thinking environment. now whatever your stand on what will happen in the future is, whether we think there will be renewal or annihilation, we can all agree on the following biblical principles about creation.

1.Creation matters because it is Gods creation (Genesis 2:15)

2. Caring for creation is discipleship (Colossians 1:15-20), If the Jesus we follow holds the world together, are we not supposed to be caring for it as his followers? ...."ones love for God and worship of Him logically ought to work itself out in a commitment to honor his creation"

3.Its instinctive: we naturally protect our species and it is impossible to do so without protecting our environment.

4.Its compassionate to care about creation: there are so many people who suffer because of pollution and by caring for the environment, for example, the community in kauma and landscape near area 12 that drinks polluted water from Lilongwe river.  thus by minimizing the effects of environmental damage, we are caring and showing compassion to people like them.

" A choice to be deeply concerned about the environmental danger is a decision to be globally minded christian.its a biblical act to act humbly and love mercy"

5. Its pro-life to care for creation: if we care about babies, we also ought to care about them having a normal sustained life with non-depleted resources.

6.its worship to care for creation:  Genesis 2:15 and Psalm 24 are quite clear about this fact i guess.....

(most of the ideas in this article were sparked by an article i read on relevant mag and is found on the following link:  http://www.relevantmagazine.com/life/whole-life/going-green-right-reasons
